A personal account

A former colleague and friend shared this story with me about her experience, and I'd like to share it with y'all. She says:

"During the COVID pandemic, I found myself with more time to be alone and reflect on my behaviors and tendencies, and that’s when I started to suspect I might have ADHD. This realization grew stronger when my previous company hosted an open conversation about neurodiversity, which was a turning point for me. Having that space to listen, learn, and share allowed me to understand myself better and eventually led to seeking a formal diagnosis, something I might not have pursued otherwise.

Stepping up to help launch an Employee Resource Group (ERG) at that company was transformative—not just for the workplace but for my personal growth. Now, as I lead my second ERG at Zscaler, I can see the incredible potential of embracing neurodiversity in the workplace. It’s not just about checking a box; it’s about fostering an open environment, creating meaningful conversations, and helping people feel seen, valued, and connected. These initiatives don’t just improve workplaces; they change lives."

Creating those spaces in our organizations for individuals to grow, learn, and express their identity is incredibly powerful. When we invest in employees, they're more highly engaged, involved, and productive.

Is your organization creating a space for individuals to express themselves and learn about their colleagues? ND@Work can help create these conversations that raise awareness about neurodivergent conditions.
